One such shining example of inspiration is Kavya Dhobale, a former government nurse. She with her resilience, courage and vision left her highly paid job to explore more about organic farming. Her work from healing patients to educating farmers on sustainable agriculture is not only encouraging but also remarkable.
At present, Kavya is a renowned entrepreneur in the field of vermicomposting, which is an eco-conscious method of producing organic manure using earthworms. She has turned her venture into a high revenue business with an annual sales volume in lakhs, within a few years. But her work isn’t about only financial success, it’s about her commitment towards healthy living, promoting chemical free farming, improving soil health and strengthening communities.
Early Life & Nursing
Kavya Dhobale started her profession as a nurse, at one of the busiest health care institutions of India – Mumbai’s Sion Hospital. She with her diverse talent and hard work served numerous patients and handled critical cases. However, COVID-19 pandemic became a life altering event.
Organic Awakening
During the days of pandemic, kavya witnessed the overwhelming impact of the virus in people’s health. Compromised immunity of patients and how they were over reliance towards medicine made her realize how fast food and urban lifestyle choices influence one’s overall well-being. She believed that “Chemical laden foods and inorganic fertilizers which are used in modern farming are the reason for declining public health.” She began studying methods that would help boost immunity and came across the concept of vermicomposting and organic farming, which ultimately molded her future.
The Birth Of Krishi Kavya
With the support of her husband, Rajesh Datkhile, she resigned from her government job, where she previously earned a decent salary of 75,000 per month. Leaving a secure profession and taking up farming as a new path was risky. Many questioned her decision, but Kavya was determined to create change.
Sowing Sustainability
After moving to Datkhilewadi village in Junnar, Pune, Maharashtra, she explored innovative and sustainable farming practices, and eventually decided to focus on vermicomposting, a method in which oxrganic waste is composed using earthworms to produce high quality manure. Her clear mission was to promote chemical free farming, improve soil quality and promote sustainable agriculture practices.

She built her brand ‘Krishi Kavya’ a vermicomposting unit, with a small investment and started producing organic fertilizers. Farmers with limited knowledge didn’t want to shift from chemical fertilizers to organic fertilizers in the first place, but through her consistent efforts and awareness campaigns, she convinced them and she slowly started building a customer base.
The Organic Revolution
After trying Kavya’s vermicompost, the local farmers analyzed that the health of soil is improving and production in the yield has increased which resulted in a rise in demand for her products. By the year 2023-2024, She achieved a remarkable business milestone. Krishi Kavya gained recognition across Maharashtra and nearby regions.
